Billie Eilish’s Mental Health Struggles
Billie Eilish, though only 17, has taken the world by storm. Her music is topping the charts and she has had huge success. But being so successful at a young age doesn’t mean she is immune to mental health issues. Billie opens up about struggling with body dysmorphia, depression, anxiety, and self-harm.
Her body dysmorphia started at age 12, when she was taking dance classes. “I’ve never felt comfortable in really tiny clothes. I was always worried about my appearance. That was the peak of my body dysmorphia. I couldn’t look in the mirror at all.” This is why Billie is always seen in public wearing baggy clothing. When Billie’s dance career ended because of a hip injury, she said that is when her depression and self-harming started.
She discusses her anxiety, especially when it comes to touring. She says that touring feels like “an endless limbo” and she was throwing up, but she has become more comfortable with touring thanks to therapy and having friends visit her on the road.
How Billie Eilish Is Dealing with Fame
When her home address was leaked online, fans showed up and her body guard had to sleep in the living room. “I completely don’t feel safe in my house anymore, which sucks. I love my house”, says Billie. When it comes to fame, she realizes that she has this amazing life, but she does have parts of it that she doesn’t like. She explains that fame isn’t how people imagine it to be and says, “I’ve loved attention my whole life, but I don’t think anyone knows what fame actually is. Because if I did want to be famous – it wasn’t this kind.”
Fame and success can be great, but it comes at a price. The glitz and glam don’t take away the anxiety, the depression, and other mental health issues. It may be easier to find mental health resources when you’re famous, but the reality is that not everyone has easy access. There is help and there is hope! mental health treatment can help anyone who is facing depression, thoughts of suicide, etc.
